It’s never a good idea to carry more than you need on a motorcycle trip. The extra weight affects handling and tire life along with increasing the affects of crosswinds. Because of this, I really only collect 2 types of souvenirs while on the road: shot glasses and smashed pennies. The hand-crank machines that make souvenirs out of worthless coins are expensive and therefore rare, and normally I only stumble upon them by chance. However, now I have a listing. The PennyCollector website even has an app you can download, but the website has a huge listing just the same.

Elongated coins store easy in a saddlebag and also help get rid of the jangling change that accumulates in your pockets while on the road, finding its way into the corners of tents and the bottoms of sleeping bags. It’s a win-win. Plus, they don’t take up a lot of space when you’re back at home. Likewise with shot glasses, which at least serve a practical purpose and tuck away on a shelf when not in use. Way better than a giant sombrero or some horrid tiki mask you’ll hang in a hallway and forget about within a month.
